When is the best time to start thinking about disease prevention and your overall health? The answer is right now. As a culture, we are so focused on dieting for aesthetics. But in holistic medicine, we think of the body as a whole, and when you start working internally, the outside will do what you want it to do. Now is the time to focus on stress reduction, movement, proper sleep, healthy relationships,  and consuming whole nutrient-dense food.

Did you know:

  • Americans sit eleven hours on average.
  • 65% of Americans watch television for two or more hours daily.
  • Women are more likely to lead more sedentary lives than men.
  • 20% of all deaths of people age 35 and older are attributed to a lack of physical activity.
  • Only 12% of Americans are metabolically healthy.
  • 75% of Americans are overweight.
  • 42% are obese.
  • One in two Americans have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, child obesity is exceptionally prevalent in the United States.

For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years:

The prevalence of obesity was 18.5% and affected about 13.7 million children and adolescents.

Obesity prevalence was 13.9% among 2- to 5-year-olds, 18.4% among 6- to 11-year-olds, and 20.6% among 12- to 19-year-olds.

It’s time to start thinking of the bigger picture; true health goes far beyond aesthetics. Making these sustainable changes will be better for the environment and create a better life for our children. We are all in this together.

About Emily Zwilling and EZ Wellness

As a gym owner and Integrative Health Practitioner, I have spent countless hours in the gym working on myself and helping others reach their physical aspirations and potential. But where I’ve felt the most significant reward and sense of accomplishment is teaching people how to achieve sustainable health by building happier and healthier lives.

Change doesn’t occur overnight, but rather through consistent, gradual change. I learned this hard but true lesson after trying every fad diet and training regimen on the planet. It seemed like nothing would stick; I became more unhealthy and unhappy with myself mentally and physically. In the end, I had to learn to love myself and believe that I could make a meaningful change.

Through EZ Wellness, I dedicate myself to encouraging and empowering others to make these necessary changes and develop habits, routines, and mindsets that will genuinely change their lives for the better. I find great purpose in my work, and I am grateful to help make a difference in my clients’ lives.  Check out my company at EZ Wellness or e-mail me at emily@ez-wellness.com.
